How did Farming Develop and Effect Mesopotamia and Today?
Mesopotamians discoveries have helped us to develop and elevate our society in many ways. They started mining, law, and even our first form of communication. Though all theses discoveries were crucial and important to developing society I believe farming was the greatest discovery of them all.

Farming changed the outcome of Mesopotamian society in so many ways. Before farming Mesopotamians were Nomads meaning they would travel from sight to sight and stay there until they had used up all the areas resources. If they hadn’t discovered farming we would have used up so many more resources and destroyed so much more land. We would also still be Nomads so we would have no chance in developing our homes and communities as we would be leaving our sight every time we ran out of crops and resources having to start again somewhere else. There would be no grocery stores or restaurants as we would have to scavenge for our food all the time. Our communication with other countries would also be poor as trading goods is one of the most common ways we connect with other groups of people.

Farming was also a huge turning point in the development of culture as when we started farming we also began to use animals for many more things. Not only would we use them for meat we would milk cows and goats, use the skin to make leather clothing and oxen would pull a special tool called an Ard which separated soil for there crops. We also became much more observant of the animals as they taught us what we could and could not eat, there are even some theories that they are what gave us the idea to start to farm. If there was no farming we might not raise cows, goats or sheep like we do today. Another big thing farming did for our culture is create a good job for people now a days like tree farmers, cattle farmers and so much more.

We have made so many new inventions and discoveries in the past few years. One of the more recent inventions is 3D printing. I really connect the invention 3D printing to the discovery of farming as 3D printing makes it possible for us to make our own figurines, toys, and so much more for our own home just like farming made it possible for Mesopotamians to stay in there home and community rather than moving around all the time. With 3D printing we can create designs and figures which are all non edible so far, where as farming creates food which is all edible unless of course it’s poisonous. Farming and 3D printing are both huge discoveries and inventions to the human race, and they both have changed humans culture and opened up so many new doors and possibilities.

Who knows where we would be if Mesopotamians didn’t discover farming. It was such a a crucial turning point in Mesopotamian society. It changed Mesopotamians culture, ideas and way of life in many ways. But it also changed ours, and maybe some day our generation will make a new discovery that will change the lives of the generations to come

Map of Early Middle East’s Culture, Geography and Environment and how it affected early Mesopotamia

My map explains the geographical environment and culture of early Mesopotamia and what there life and society may have been like. It also helps to give an idea of the environmental features the Middle East and Mesopotamia it also shows how new discoveries changed early people’s life style and culture and how they adapted throughout the years.

For example when the Mesopotamians discovered minerals such as metal, gold, silver, and copper they began making tools which led them to be capable of making more durable shelters and huts. Discovering these minerals also led to the art of carving, panting and even making jewellery.

Soon enough they were able to make boats out of the resource trees and travel and discover different lands. When traveling they came across other bands of people which had different resources that they may need or want. This led to trade.

Trading exposed early peoples to all sorts of resources like for example if there were a band of people in what we call Europe who were growing potatoes and people from a part of the Middle East like Saudi Arabia discovered them they may want to trade them on of there resources like dates which cannot be easily grown in there part of Europe. Theses are only some of the many ways new discovers changed early people’s society.

The early people’s resources and environment helped them to change and evolve there society in so many different ways , and as people continue to make new discoveries are generation will begin to evolve and improve today’s world.

Home.

To anyone else this would just be another disintegrating old home, a piece of junk that should have been torn down years ago, but to me, Prue Vine, its so much more than that.

In the attic are 90 years of my most treasured keepsakes like the first shell I found on the lake out side my new home or the locket my grandmother gave me when I was ten years old. there is the window seat where I would sit contently and gaze at the starry night sky, and observe the most diverse creatures like bears passing by scavenging for berries or the robins searching for the seed my mother sprinkled for them every morning but my very favorite was when dear would come and sip the water from our little pond.

When this house was built 100 years ago it was a beautiful home with fresh white trim and teal clap board along with a couple of stone accents around the wood stair case up to our oak door. The house was surrounded in velvety green grass that flowed into the silvery blue lake. I remember going for a six pm swim in this lake watching the sun set until my mom would call me in to a delicious dinner of roast chicken and potatoes. My feet would slide across the smooth oak planks passing by the brick fire place and white couch making me feel as if I was flying.

This home may seem worthless to someone else but its still beautiful in my eyes as this is the place I once called home.

How am I connected to those in the past

There are so many ways we are connected with the people of the past, such as religion, tradition and ancestors. This week my teacher assigned me and the other grade sevens in my class to make a timeline of our life including events before and after we were born. We also had to integrate a few interesting world events. She assigned us this project to help us to understand how much we are connected to those in the past and how much they have affected our lives.

Before me or my parents were born my Oma [Eugenie Rempel – maternal grandmother] was born in Russia. Although her parents were well educated and wealthy, everything they had was lost during World War II. In 1953 when my Oma was 18, she was an orphan and a refugee living in Germany. When she decided to move to Canada, she had no money and little education. But that’s when she met my Nonno [ Beniamino Comin ] an Italian man who had also left Europe for better job opportunities. Four years later they had my mom’s older sister, Eva and a year later they had my mom, Janet and three more kids after that. Then my mother met my dad whose parents both moved from Kerry, Ireland to England for better job opportunities. They met in England and had my dad a year later. Without those key events I would not be here today.

When I was about eight years old my mom decided she would like to work full time as an at risk youth teacher. When she told me I was pretty sad because this would mean she worked until six or seven some nights and leave the house at seven a.m.   She would also have to go to the school and work on prep during weekends. Her schedule was so tight I would barley spend any time with her. It also meant that I had to walk to and from school by my self as my older sister Grace was about to start high school. Though I was sad, it taught me how to be more independent and more comfortable being on my own. It took a couple months getting used to it but I soon enjoyed the nice morning walk. Just a few months ago my mom decided to go back to part time but honestly I don’t notice a big difference because she is always finding household projects to take care of. This event showed me not all change is bad and even though it sucks at first it turns out to be an extremely positive thing.

We are affected by our ancestors in so many different ways and none of us would be here without them. They taught us to keep going when things are hard. They showed us what we needed to do to be a strong family.

The Right To Assessable Medical Services

To have this right is to have assessable medical care at all times no matter where or who you are. For example if you were to have a stroke you can call an ambulance or drive to a hospital or walk in clinic and receive medical care immediately. Everyone deserves the right to accessible medical services as its one of are greatest needs to survive.

There is many parts of the world where you can’t get medical services such as Afghanistan. I’m reading a book called the Bread Winner it is about a girl named Parvana is living in Afghanistan while the Taliban army takes over. Parvana and her family don’t have accessible medical care just like the other citizens of Afghanistan and this creates many issues in her life.

Parvanas father was taken to prison by Taliban Solders though he did nothing wrong. One day Parvana came home from a long and hard day of work to find to men carrying her sick, frail and injured father up the stairs to there falling apart home. He was sick and dying and had no assessable medical services. fortunately Parvanas Family friend was trained in medical care and did as best as she could to get him well though he would never be fully healed. If Parvanas father had accessible medical services he could make a full recovery and live his life in comfort but since he didn’t he will always be in pain and wont be able to live his life to the fullest.

Everyone deserves equal rights especially the right to medical services. Its such a important right and necessity in our lives without it I wouldn’t be here today like many other people in the world and we need to work towards having accessible medical care everywhere in the world so that everyone can have a good long healthy life.
